Description

This course provides the knowledge and skill necessary to write a quality IEP for your students. Participants explore the development of a quality IEP by reviewing the key components of each section of the IEP and analyzing examples of IEP writing.

Expected Learning Outcomes

At the conclusion of this course participants should be able to:

  • Develop a present level of performance for your student that is child-focused, data-based, specific, and aligned to the development of an effective set of IEP goals, programs, services, and accommodations.
  • Create annual goals and short-term objectives as applicable that include what the student will be expected to achieve, criteria to measure the goal, a method to measure progress, and schedule for measuring progress.
  • Determine a placement recommendation, related services, and special education program for the student aligned to their present level of performance and their annual goals.
  • Analyze how to assess students needs to make decisions about assessment participation types of testing accommodations and practice writing testing accommodations to include the required information for the IEP.
  • Develop measurable post-secondary goals in alignment with vocational assessments a coordinated set of transition activities to support students in meeting goals.

Course Instructor Credentials

Former special education teacher, district special education coach, and current school administrator. She currently holds certifications in elementary education, special education, severe and multiple disabilities, and school building administration. She graduated with a BA from Amherst College in 2004, obtained her Masters in Education from CUNY- Lehman 2006, and earned her Masters in Special Education Leadership from Bank Street College in 2010.
