Description

This course will dive into both health and skill related fitness. Teachers will learn what makes up complete fitness, how to develop all components of fitness, and methods to assess each component. Teachers will be exposed to the Athlos Athletic Assessment protocols and other best practice strategies for assessing athletes’ fitness levels.

Expected Learning Outcomes

At the conclusion of this course participants should be able to:

  • Identify similarities and differences between traditional classroom managment and class management in a PE setting.
  • Intentify the primary componenets of 'gym' managment.
  • Evaluate current mindset with regard to 'gym' management.
  • Understand the importance of rapport and teaching presence, as well as how to develop each.
  • Formulate a plan for laying the foundations of a smooth school year.

Course Instructor Credentials

Former physical education teacher and athletic coach with 10+ years of experience in the public and private sectors. An advocate for physical literacy, athletic development, and a holistic approach in education. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science from Illinois College in 2010. Then, in 2012 he obtained a Master of Education in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment from Jones International University, followed by a Masters in Exercise Physiology from Illinois State University in 2017.
