Expected Learning Outcomes

At the conclusion of this course participants should be able to:

  • Ensure that all staff working with a student is notified and supported in understanding their implementation responsibilities for a student’s IEP.

  • Understand how different components of the IEP translate into classroom practice.

  • Identify practices for collaborating with service providers to implement student IEP.
  • Identify key best practices for consistently implementing student management needs in the classroom.
  • Design lesson plans for implementing specially designed instruction in the classroom.
  • Design lesson plans incorporating direct instruction on student IEP goals.
  • Create a system for organizing instruction and progress monitoring of IEP goals for their students.
  • Understand methods of formally sharing progress with families.
  • Identify formal and informal steps to take if the student is not making adequate progress towards mastering IEP goals.

Course Instructor Credentials

Former special education teacher, district special education coach, and current school administrator. She currently holds certifications in elementary education, special education, severe and multiple disabilities, and school building administration. She graduated with a BA from Amherst College in 2004, obtained her Masters in Education from CUNY-Lehman in 2006, and earned her Masters in Special Education Leadership from Bank Street College in 2010.
